# Upsales

Create an Upsales API key and send it to us. About 3 minutes.

> - **Time:** about 3 minutes
> - **Who can do this:** an Upsales **admin**
> - **Plan needed:** the API must be switched on for your account (see step 1). Light use is usually free; Upsales may charge for heavy use.

## Before you start

- Log in details for an Upsales admin user.
- [OneTimeSecret](https://eu.onetimesecret.com) open in another tab. You will use it to send the key. [How it works](https://guide.upliftedconsulting.com/start-here/sending-securely.md).

## Get your API key

### Step 1: Check the API is switched on

Click **Settings**, then **Account**, then **Billing portal**. Open **Products** and check the API is active. If it isn't, activate it there.

> **Tip:**
> If you're not sure, skip this step. If the next steps don't work, come back here.

### Step 2: Open API keys

Click **Settings**, then **Account**, then **Security**, then **API keys**.

### Step 3: Create a new key

Click **New API key**. Type a name, for example "Uplifted Consulting".

### Step 4: Generate and copy it

Click **Generate key**. Copy the key straight away.

> **Careful:**
> Upsales shows the key **only once**. Copy it before you close the window.

## Send it to us

- [Send it with OneTimeSecret](https://guide.upliftedconsulting.com/start-here/sending-securely.md): Paste the key into OneTimeSecret, create the link, and send us **only the link**. Label it "Upsales API key".

## Something not right?

### I don't see Security or API keys

You are probably not an admin. Ask an Upsales admin to do these steps.

### I closed the window before copying the key

Delete that key (hover over it and click the bin icon). Then create a new one and copy it this time.

### Should I reuse a key we already have?

No. Please create a new key just for us. That way you can see what we do, and remove our access without affecting other tools.
